3 WAYS TO MAKE ABUELITA CHOCOLATE || Mexican Hot Chocolate

I love Abuelita Chocolate but sometimes the “traditional” method either takes too long or is too much work, so I came up with 2 other methods to prepare our favorite hot chocolate. The FAST method takes 3 minutes in the blender and the HANDS OFF method in the crock pot keeps it hot and ready for you when it’s done.

RECIPES (in order of appearance)

All 3 recipes use the same ratio of 4 cups water/milk to 1 tablet of chocolate
*tip: only fill your cup part way and then top off with cold milk to cool it down and help the chocolate go farther!

Traditional Abuelita Chocolate Method

Abuelita Chocolate is traditionally prepared on the stove.

  • 8 cups Milk or Water
  • 2 tablets Abuelita Chocolate broken up

Instructions

  • Add milk/water to pot.
  • Stir in the tablets.
  • Bring to a boil continually stirring.
  • Allow to boil for a few minutes, continually stirring to ensure tablet is completely dissolved and flavors are nicely melded.
  • Pour into mug and enjoy.

Notes

As it sits cools it will develop a layer on top called Nata. Nata can be translated as milk skin, the creamy layer that builds on top of milk. Feel free to mix it in before serving.
